With the
theme “Plumbing-Vital to Global Health”,
plumbing organisations throughout the world will be
undertaking a range of activities with the aim of raising
awareness of the important role played by today’s
plumbing industry
SNIPEF (The Scottish & Northern Ireland Plumbing
Employers’ Federation) is fully behind World Plumbing
Day and to mark the event SNIPEF will be holding a reception
in the Scottish Parliament which will be hosted by the
Chair of the Scottish Parliamentary Cross Party Group
for Construction, Marilyn Livingstone MSP.
We are all guilty of taking our plumbing and heating
systems for granted and have either forgotten or fail
to appreciate that good plumbing is a major factor in
maintaining our health and welfare. Climate change and
a global desire to protect scarce natural resources
is another area in which the plumbing industry plays
a major role - whether in the design, installation or
maintenance of renewable energy technologies or in the
creation of energy and water efficiency solutions”.
As well as good plumbing it’s also important that
customers choose a good plumber. Using a SNIPEF Licensed
plumber means that consumers have the safeguard of knowing
that they will be using a business which employs properly
qualified plumbers, hold appropriate insurances and
are subject to ongoing audit and inspection. Using a
SNIPEF Licensed Plumbers also means that consumers benefit
from an independent complaints process and a no-cost
warranty scheme.
The World Plumbing Council Chairman, Robert Burgon,
who is also the SNIPEF Director will launch the first
World Plumbing Day at a press conference in Beijing,
China.
Robert said “Our hope is that “on World
Plumbing Day, the world will realise that plumbing is
essential in protecting both the health of our people
and the health of our planet. Where countries have developed
plumbing systems, the role of our industry is often
taken for granted. In developing countries, many people
have yet to discover the real difference that plumbing
can make. WPC hopes that newspapers and all other forms
of media will help many more people to understand that
our industry is a key player in so many aspects of society.”
Robert Burgon concludes: “There are already international
days for many important causes- some of which are relevant
to plumbing- but this will be the first time that plumbing
has been marked in such a way. As our logo says, we
hope that on 11 March everywhere, starting in 2010,
there will be far greater understanding of the role
of our industry.”
